Aircond Gas Top Up (R32, R410A & R22) and Leak Repair in Kuala Lumpur
Have you paid a technician to “top up gas” on your air conditioner, only for the cold air to disappear again 3 or 4 weeks later? Here is the honest engineering truth that many contractors won’t tell you: air conditioner refrigerant gas is NOT fuel. It circulates continuously inside a sealed copper loop and never gets “consumed” during normal operation. If your refrigerant pressure has dropped, there is a physical leak somewhere in the circuit.
At Elite Aircond Expert’s (Sentul & Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur), we refuse to simply pump gas into a leaking pipe and leave you with a recurring problem. Whenever your aircond is low on R32, R410A, or R22 refrigerant, our technicians test the outdoor brass flare nuts, Schrader service valve cores, and indoor evaporator joints to stop the leak first—so your new gas charge stays sealed for years.
We carry pure, high-grade R32, R410A, and R22 refrigerant cylinders in all our KL dispatch vans and charge strictly according to manufacturer PSI and running amperage specifications.

4 Classic Symptoms That Your Aircond Is Low on Refrigerant Gas
How can you tell if your aircond genuinely needs a gas refill and leak check before we even arrive? Look for these 4 physical signs:
1. White Frost or Solid Ice Forming on the Small Outdoor Copper Pipe or Indoor Coil
When refrigerant pressure drops roughly 30% to 50% below normal, the boiling temperature of the remaining gas inside the copper tube plunges below 0°C (freezing point). Humidity in the air freezes solid onto the thinner 1/4-inch outdoor copper valve and creeps across the indoor cooling coil.
2. Outdoor Compressor Runs Continuously, But Both Copper Pipes Feel Warm
If almost all the gas has leaked out (0 to 20 PSI), there is not enough refrigerant left to form ice. The outdoor compressor hums warm air, both copper valves feel dry and room-temperature to the touch, and the indoor unit blows plain fan wind.
3. Hissing, Gurgling, or Bubbling Sounds Inside the Indoor Unit
When refrigerant is low, liquid gas vaporizes prematurely inside the capillary tube or expansion valve, creating a distinct hissing or running-water sound even when the fan is on low speed.
4. Oily Dirt Stain Around the Outdoor Brass Flare Nuts
Refrigerant gas circulates mixed with compressor lubricating oil. Where gas leaks out at a loose brass nut on the outdoor compressor, a sticky dark oil ring forms and collects black dust—giving away the exact location of the leak.
Where Do 90% of Aircond Gas Leaks Happen (And How We Fix Them)?
Homeowners often fear a gas leak means their expensive indoor coil or concealed wall pipe is punctured. In reality, our KL field logs show that nearly 90% of leaks occur at two easily repairable spots:
- 1. Outdoor & Indoor Brass Flare Nut Joints (75% of Leaks): Thermal expansion and compressor vibration cause poorly flared copper pipe ends to crack slightly at the brass nut. Our Fix: We pump down any remaining gas, unscrew the nut, cut off the worn 1-inch tip of the copper pipe, form a brand-new mirror-smooth 45° flare using an eccentric flaring cone, and torque it tight (RM60–RM90).
- 2. Leaking Service Valve Schrader Core & Missing Brass Cap (15% of Leaks): Just like a car tire valve, the tiny spring pin inside the outdoor service port can degrade. Our Fix: We replace the valve core and torque the brass seal cap with thread sealant.
- 3. Evaporator U-Bend Pinhole Corrosion (10% of Leaks): Found on older coils subjected to acidic environments. Our Fix: High-temperature silver/copper oxy-acetylene brazing or coil replacement.
